Sid Miller Dance Band heads to the Poconos

The Sid Miller Dance Band had a great time this past Sunday at the wedding reception of Meredith and Justin Durst. It was held at the Skytop Lodge in the Poconos. The Skytop Lodge just built a new wing for private parties, and it’s beautiful.
The guests and the bride and groom were wonderful to us. The bride’s parents were very gracious offering us a lobster or a New York strip steak entree during our break. We enjoyed it very much; we were all very hungry since we left Philly at 6AM so some of us could arrive to do the wedding ceremony at 11AM.
The wedding reception was like a dance-concert. Most of the guests were dancing and those who weren’t, were watching the band. The dancers as well as the listeners applauded enthusiatically after just about every song that we performed. When we took our break, almost every one of the guests stood up and gave us a standing ovation! It felt great to be appreciated in that manner.

Sid Miller–November 28th and 29th Weddings

The role of the band leader is crucial in terms of the success of a party. The band leader and maitre’d’s role in the making of a great party is often overlooked, but is paramount in importance so that every minute runs smoothly and seamlessly without wasting any precious time.
The Sid Miller Dance Band had the opportunity to perform at two wedding receptions this past weekend.
On November 28 we were at The Drexelbrook performing at the wedding reception for the bride and groom, Jenn and Joe Gallagher. Working with the staff and especially the maitre’d, Cheryl, was a pleasure. We worked together to make the party great for the bride and groom and the guests. I was very impressed with the professionalism of the staff and the beauty of the ballroom.
On November 29, we had the opportunity to perform for the bride and groom, Ilanna and Ronnie Shmoel’s wedding reception. It took place at the Crystal Palace in Livingston NJ, a few minutes from NYC. The name of this venue is totally appropriate. It is a beautiful banquet facility, crystal chandeliers, gold inlays and gorgeous marble everywhere. The groom’s side of the family practices Orthodox Judiasm, and hired the Israeli/Arabic band, Ronnie Shalom, to play dance music during two segments of the evening’s celebration. They were incredible!
There were so many details that needed to be addressed during the evening, so working with a great maitre’d at the reception was very important to the success of the party. The evening’s agenda was filled with many details. Nella, the maitre’d was wonderful; we worked very well together to make sure that every detail was attended to, as a result, the party was a total success. Everyone had so much fun dancing to the modern Israeli music and the music of the Sid Miller Band.
It was definitely a memorable weekend!
Here are some more photos of the band.

Sid Miller Dance Band November Blog

We had the opportunity of playing our third wedding reception of this year at the beautiful Rehoboth Beach Country Club in Rehoboth Beach Delaware. Cheryl Ramano, the banquet manager, is a pleasure to work with. Here are a few photos from the last time we performed there.

Sid Miller Dance Band - September 26th Wedding at the Ritz Carlton

The party we did for Ward and Dena at the Ritz Carlton was amazing! Because the bride and groom requested it, we had the opportunity to perform one of my favorite Al Green tunes, “Love and Happiness”, as well as a musical tribute to Michael Jackson, which included “I Want You Back”, “ABC”, “Billie Jean”, “Don’t Stop Till You get Enough” and “Thriller”. The guests loved it and we really enjoyed playing those songs with authenticity, the way they should be played.
I want to thank a great artistic photographer, Mike Allebach, who took some fantastic action shots of the band while we were performing that evening. When I receive them, I’ll put them up on this site.

Open to the Public Perfomance Rescheduled-Octo Club, 9-25

Because of the inclement weather on August 28, our engagement at the Octo Club had to be postponed. It was very disappointing because we had over 100 people on our guest list. However, we have been rescheduled to  perform  there on Friday, September 25. We’ll do three sets starting at 10PM. If you want to be there, call BVT, and I’ll be happy to put you on our guest list. This will be the first and probably the last time this year that we’ll be performing in public since we do mostly private events. Hope to see you there; it’s going to be fun!

Sid Miller Dance Band to Perform at Public Venue,The Octo Club

Many people have been asking me if the Sid Miller Dance Band will be performing at a public venue so they can come out to check us out. The last time we performed at a public venue was in January of this year when we provided dance music for the Auto Show Black Tie Gala. So, I am very excited and pleased to announce that the Sid Miller Dance Band will be performing at the Octo Club on Friday night, August 28. We will be doing three shows from 10PM to 1:30AM. The Octo Club is located on Delaware Avenue at Vine Street (211 N. Columbus Boulevard). It’s beautiful outdoor restaurant/club. We hope to see you there!

The month of June for the Sid Miller Dance Band has been an exciting one!

The month of June for the Sid Miller Dance Band has been an exciting one of traveling to cities and venues that are new to us!
On June 6, we did a fund raising event in Middleburgh, Virginia for an international organization entitled, The Wild Foundation (www.wild.org). They are involved in world-wide wilderness conservation and wilderness protection. About 300 guests attended the gala including one of my favorite actors, Robert Duvall, as well as many political dignitaries from Virginia and Washington D.C.
On June 13, we traveled to Cambridge, Maryland to perform at Scot and Laura’s wedding reception, which took place at the hotel-resort, The Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay. The hotel was located on the beach, and it was magnificent! Scot and Laura and their guests and family had a great time, and so did we!

Sid Miller Dance Band at the National Constitution Center

We performed at the National Constitution Center on May 9. Mayor Michael Nutter was the officiant for the wedding ceremony that took place outside of the second floor area where the reception was held.
The bride’s father wanted us to play Con Te Partiro performed by Andrea Bocelli on CD for the father/bride special dance. I asked him if we could perform it live instead. He told me that as long as we did it in Italian and it sounded great, it would be fine with him. Talk about pressure!
I asked my singer, Nathan, if he could do it and he told me, “Absolutely, I studied Italian as part of my studies as a musical theater major at NYU”. I bought the sheet music and went on iTunes and purchased the song and gave it to Nathan.
Brian, my keyboardist, diligently worked on the tune and came up with a beautiful synthesizer orchestral part that sounded just like the recording, and Gary, my “world-class” drummer, played the timpani parts. Nathan wowed the guests as well as the father of the bride. After he finished singing the song, the father hugged Nathan and the band received a standing ovation.
Mission accomplished!!

Sid Miller Dance Band and the great Pablo Batista, Master Percussionist

I and the band are very excited to welcome back to the Sid Miller Dance Band, the great Pablo Batista, master percussionist. After touring around the world for close to a year, playing 185 dates with Alicia Keys, Pablo is hotter than ever and a great addition to our band. Not only is Pablo a world-class musician but he is also an absolute gentleman, a rarity in the music business. Pablo Batista is a pleasure to work with and a consummate professional. We look forward to a long lasting relationship and working with an artist of his caliber.

Sid Miller Dance Band Lighting Upgrades!

I am very pleased about my new purchase of stage lighting for the Sid Miller Dance Band. We now utilize state-of-the art LED lighting. LED lighting is great; it can be used at any venue because it doesn’t require as much power as conventional lighting units. As a result, it can be used even at venues that don’t have enough electrical power to run conventional lights. We have eight LED lights (four on each side of the stage for back lighting) as well as two multi light  color changing units on the floor creating lots of ”energy” across the stage during the hot dance sets and four par 56 lights to create a subtle but beautiful “wash” of colors for the front of the stage. It’s exciting!
