We performed at the National Constitution Center on May 9. Mayor Michael Nutter was the officiant for the wedding ceremony that took place outside of the second floor area where the reception was held.
The bride’s father wanted us to play Con Te Partiro performed by Andrea Bocelli on CD for the father/bride special dance. I asked him if we could perform it live instead. He told me that as long as we did it in Italian and it sounded great, it would be fine with him. Talk about pressure!
I asked my singer, Nathan, if he could do it and he told me, “Absolutely, I studied Italian as part of my studies as a musical theater major at NYU”. I bought the sheet music and went on iTunes and purchased the song and gave it to Nathan.
Brian, my keyboardist, diligently worked on the tune and came up with a beautiful synthesizer orchestral part that sounded just like the recording, and Gary, my “world-class” drummer, played the timpani parts. Nathan wowed the guests as well as the father of the bride. After he finished singing the song, the father hugged Nathan and the band received a standing ovation.
Mission accomplished!!
